The Fabelmans tells the tale of Sammy Fabelman, who fell in love with movies after his parents Mitzi and Burt took him to see The Greatest Show on Earth. Sammy continued to make movies with his family throughout his childhood and adolescence. But they also helped shape how he perceived the world because of the friends he kept making because of his commitment to the craft. In the same way that movies became his window to the world, they also destroyed his idea of the ideal family, which brings us to another recurring theme in most of Steven Spielberg’s films.
